Both have been collaborating since 2006.
Una Szeemann and Bohdan Stehlik have been working together as artists in a variety of media since 2006, producing videos, photographs, and installations. A fundamental theme in their works is the relationship between reality and illusion. Their work explores the boundaries of perception, penetrates the realms of dreams, imagination, and surreality, and leaves viewers uncertain of how things really are. The photographic series “Dark Movies” shows important scenes from influential films that the artists have revisited in the form of plasticine models that turn memories into sculptures. For the exhibition, the two artists developed a new work titled “Terra Nullius” during their stay at quartier21 as Artists-in-Residence. The piece explores the theme of existing no-man’s-lands and also introduces speculations and utopias that are made three-dimensional through the use of objects.
